United Utilities plan to commence the lining operations on Line 1 of the Vyrnwy Aqueduct within your area (Area 03 – Peckforton, Beeston, Spurstow, Bunbury) from Monday, 12 February.

In preparation for commencing our upcoming section of work, we are planning to hold a community drop in session where members of our team will be available to answer any queries, listen to valuable feedback and provide updates on our upcoming programme of lining work in Area 03. More information on our drop in session can be seen below and we would encourage this information to be shared within your local community, council and with local stakeholders.  Should you be unable to make the session, the latest information can also be found online at: https://uuhub.co.uk/vyrnwy/.

  • When: Thursday, 8 February between 2:30pm and 6:30pm

What will our lining work will involve?

We’ll shortly begin transporting new pipes, machinery and equipment to a number of our working areas between Stone House Lane and Moss Lane ((AP1027 to AP1037), where new pipes will be stored, prepared and welded together before they are inserted into the existing aqueduct.

Our work will be carried out in stages and the map attached with this email indicates our working locations, along with the necessary access point information. We expect the first section of lining work in your area between AP1027 to AP1037 to take around 16 weeks to complete, during which time there may be periods of limited activity as our team work at different locations along the aqueduct and we have been working with landowners to co-ordinate this.

Once the first phase of lining work is complete, we’ll temporarily reinstate the land until we return to carry out the final lining phase of our work, which we expect will begin from summer 2024. We’ll be back in touch to keep you updated.

Temporary Traffic management and Public Right of Way Diversions

In order to safely complete our work, there may be times when we need temporary traffic management and/or Public Right of Way closures. I have summarised below the expected temporary measures that may need to be introduced surrounding each access point whilst complete the section of work between Stone House Lane and Moss Lane (AP1027 to AP1037).

Access point information
AP1030 Temporary road closure required between AP1030 and AP1033 for a period of up to 8 weeks whilst completing essential work within the highway, currently anticipated for Mid-to-Late April 2024. Whilst completing this work there would be no restriction to residential access.

We will continue to keep you up to date on the requirement to temporarily close this section of Peckforton Lane, subject to Local Authority liaison and approval, and will liaise with those impacted by this work, including the closure dates and duration once confirmed.

AP1033 As above.
AP1036 Temporary Public Right of Way footpath closure required within the surrounding area whilst completing essential work with diversion signage in place and erected within the local vicinity. Whilst not working at this location, all footpaths will be reinstated. If you would like more information on the agreed diversion routes please respond back to this email.
AP1037 As above.
AP1038 No work required during this time. Updates will be provided as our work progresses.
AP1039 No work required during this time. Updates will be provided as our work progresses.
AP1041a No work required during this time. Updates will be provided as our work progresses.

We’ll continue to keep you updated about any traffic management that may be required and this will also be available at unitedutilities.com/vamp-live-updates.
