Beeston Castle

The castle known as “castle of the rock” in medieval times, is today managed by English Heritage and is a site of Special Scientific Interest.  It has a rich history dating from pre historic times and beautiful views from the Pennines to the Welsh Mountains on a clear day.

In recent years peregrine falcons have nested at the castle and Beeston Peregrine Falcon watch help provide essential protection for these rare birds.

Thursday 6 June (evening)

Beeston Parish Council will be hosting, in conjunction with English Heritage, a Beacon Lighting to mark D-DAY 80. The event will be ticket only, but is free. Beeston residents can now apply for tickets – email beestonbeacon@gmail.com

The 6th June 2024 marks the 80th anniversary of D-Day, when Allied forces mounted the largest amphibious invasion the world has ever witnessed.

In 1944 Operation Overlord saw around 4,000 ships and landing craft set down about 132,500 troops on five Normandy beaches in an action that would bring about the liberation of north-west Europe from Nazi occupation.

The bravery and sacrifice of those people in securing the peace and freedom we enjoy today will be observed by the lighting of beacons around the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man and UK Overseas Territories.

We hope you will join us.
